New Barbie Line includes first ever Doll with Hearing aids


 Barbie is now more inclusive than ever.

The new entries in Mattel's Barbie Fashionistas line are a diverse group of dolls, including a Barbie with behind-the-ear hearing aids, one with a prosthetic leg and a ken doll with vitiligo, the skin condition that causes loss of pigment cells.

Hearing-loss advocate Dr. Jen Richardson worked with the toy company to guarantee that the hearing aids would be portrayed in the most accurate light.

"I'm honoured to have worked with Barbie to create an accurate reflection of a doll with behind-the-ear hearing aids," she said in a statement. "As an educational audiologist with over 18 years of experience working in hearing-loss advocacy, It's inspiring to see those who experience hearing loss reflected in a doll."

"I'm beyond thrilled for my young patients to see and play with a doll who looks like them," she added. Mattel first announced its mission of diverse representation in 2020, revealing that the Fashionistas line will comprise 176 dolls with nine different body types, 35 skin tones and 94 hairstyles.


The newest barbie fashionistas collection will be available for purchase on Amazon, a Target and Walmart in June
