Late Rapper Notorious B.I.G Set to be Honoured Posthumously

On what would have been The Notorious B.I.G's 50th birthday, the late rap legend will be honoured in New York City with a series of tributes taking place across the city on Saturday, May 21.

The famed Empire State Building in Manhattan will be lit up in red and white on that day. There will also be a wreathe illuminated crown rotating around its mast as a reminder of his "King of New York" reputation.

Similarly, the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, the rapper's hometown, will honour his birthday by displaying some of his most well-known recordings over the stadium's entrance.

The MTA, for its part, plans to release a special edition MetroCard for the three subway stations nearest to the rapper's home, notably Lafayette Avenue, Clinton-Washington Avenue, and Atlantic Avenue.

The Empire State Building, in collaboration with Bad Boy/Atlantic/Rhino Records, will hold a ceremony a day before the festivities begin, which will be attended by Biggie's children, his mother, and others.

Amazon Music, together with its music Label [RE]DISCOVER, wants to participate in the Notorious B.I.G. memorial by decorating the Clinton-Washington Ave. Station with paintings and murals honouring Biggie.

New local murals based on The Notorious B.I.G. highlights will be installed in every borough of New York City in cooperation with Beautify Earth.
